Applications for Hosting of Projects and Academic Visits

SNF Professorships, ERC Grants

Researchers who would like to have their career project hosted at the Department must submit their application documents by email to the Department Executive Management.

Required Documents

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Publication list
  • Proposal summary
  • Motivation letter outlining: 
    • why the CL department is the preferred host department,
    • the added value the applicant would bring to the Department, and
    • the scientific or strategic benefits the proposed project would provide to the Department.

Deadline

All application materials must be submitted at least 12 weeks before the relevant funding deadline.
Applications submitted after this deadline may not be guaranteed to complete the Department's internal review process in time.

Procedure

Initial Review will be by the Department Management.
The Department Management reviews the submitted documents and decides whether:
•    the application should proceed to the Department Assembly (IV) for consideration, or
•    the application should be declined at this stage.

Presentation to the Department

If the application passes the initial review, the candidate will be invited to present their project to the department members.
•    The presentation will be announced at least 2 weeks in advance.
•    The date of the subsequent Department Assembly (IV), during which the application will be discussed, should be communicated at the same time.

Decision by the Department Assembly (IV)

The Department Assembly discusses the application and decides whether to support the hosting request. Voting will, by default, take place by secret ballot.

Projects without additional personnel, f.e. SNF Ambizione

For projects that do not involve personnel responsibilities, researchers wishing to have their project hosted within the department should contact the head of the workgroup they intend to join directly.

•    Requests must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the the relevant funding deadline.

Academic Guests / Visitors

Academic guests/visitors should contact the chair of the workgroup directly if they want to apply for a visit.

  • Individuals from CH/EU/EFTA countries: Requests must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the planned start date.
  • Individuals from non-EU/EFTA countries, requests must be submitted at least 3 months before the planned start date for visa reasons.

The administrative Department Manager should be informed immediately once such a request is being considered.
